Conway's Bed & Breakfast
is located in Claremorris,
the heart of County
Mayo in the west of Ireland. There are lots of activities
for you to enjoy during your holiday or vacation.
The area is steeped in history, we are near Knock
Shrine, Ireland's National Marian Shrine where on the
21 August 1879 Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist
were seen in an apparition at Knock Parish Church. Coilmore
is an ideal base for pilgrims or visitors to use when visiting
the shrine. Other religious places of interest include the
historical Ballintubber
and Ballinasmale Abbeys. The Museum
of Country Life in nearby Castlebar portrays the lives
of people who lived in rural Ireland in the last 150 years,
it is also the first branch of the National Museum outside
Dublin.
Mayo is renowned for it's fishing.
With some of the most beautiful rivers and lakes in Ireland,
offering guests some of the best fishing in the world. In
Ireland there is no closed season, fishing is free and you
don't need a licence.
Claremorris has a public swimming
pool, excellent golf
club, a plethora of restaurants, take-aways and snack
bars. There are also many welcoming traditional Irish pubs
in the town, where you can enjoy a Guinness
while listening to local poets or music.
Further afield, Mayo has miles of unspoilt coastline, accessible
by a drive or train journey. Worth a visit is the holy mountain
of Croagh
Patrick and the National Famine Monument near Westport.
Also worth a visit is the beautiful Achill
Island, and the Céide
Fields which are the oldest known field systems in the
world, over five and a half millennia old.
